Dessie Roberts

Dessie Estelle Roberts, 91, of Olathe, passed away Monday, June 25, 2007, at
Sweet Life of Rosehill, Shawnee, Kan. Funeral services will be held at 2
p.m., Friday, June 29, 2007, at the First Presbyterian Church, Lee and
Hershey Streets, Olathe. The family will receive friends one hour prior to
service time. Interment, Olathe Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested
to the church.
Dessie Estelle Benton Roberts was born in Johnson County, Kansas, July 28,
1915, to Thomas M. Benton and Nellie Z. Steele Benton. She was the seventh
of their eight children.
Dessie attended John P. St. John High School in Olathe. She married James
Harold (Bugs) Roberts on June 25, 1932, and celebrated almost 66 happy years
together before his death May 1, 1998.
Dessie was a member of First United Presbyterian Church of Olathe and a
member of the church quilting circle. She worked in the Johnson County
Treasurer's office from the early 1950's until her retirement in 1980. She
was a very talented seamstress and an avid quilter. Her children,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren have all been recipients of the
beautiful quilts she lovingly made.
Dessie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bugs; her daughter,
Dorothy Eloise Roberts; her parents; her brothers, Virgil Benton, William
Benton and Thomas Benton; her sisters, Leta Campbell, Freda Martin, Vera
Moore and Vena Carter; and infant grandson, Ryan Roberts.
She is survived by three sons, Thomas Fredrick Roberts and wife Amy, James
Harold Roberts, Jr., and wife Pat, and Kenneth Benton Roberts and wife
Joyce. She also leaves four grandsons; six granddaughters; 23
great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; three
great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dessie was a wonderful, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved and
was very proud of her children and grandchildren and all of the "greats".
She will be greatly missed and remembered with love by her family and her
many friends.
