Derald Vernon Spicer, 87, of Olathe, passed away on September 16, 2019 at his residence.
He was born on December 17, 1931 to Walter and Eunice (Andrick) Spicer in Centralia, Kansas.
Derald worked in the telephone industry for 42 years retiring as an engineer for Sprint.
On December 24, 1953, he married Bernice Elaine (Norman) Spicer in Topeka, Kansas. Derald and Bernice lived in Olathe, Kansas, for the last 37 years.
He was a member of a Winnebago club, Motorcoach Association, and the Olathe Intergenerational Chorus (OIC). He enjoyed traveling, bowling, canoeing, and spending time with family.
Derald is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Bernice; children; Elaine (Rick) Pardee, Vernon (Pam) Spicer, Kelly (Richard) Bennett, and Curtis (Diana) Spicer, 11 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Dorothy Haines and Janice Stewart.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Wayne Spicer and Francis Spicer.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 20, 2019 at 2 PM at First Baptist Church, 2024 E 151st St, Olathe, KS 66062.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Olathe Hospice, a member of the Olathe Health Charitable Foundation.
