Dennis Powers

September 22, 1951 — January 10, 2021

It is with great sadness, the family of Dennis K. Powers of Shawnee, Kansas, announces he passed away in Kansas City on January 10th, 2021. To say he will be missed is a great understatement. He was cremated in Olathe, Kansas and will have no services, but those surviving him will always hold great memories.

Dennis was born in Ogden, Utah 9/22/51 to Robert Morrison Powers & Wilma Florence (Reynolds) Powers. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Rhonda L. Powers, his children Merret (Mindi) Powers, Alesia (Russ) Powers Ivers, Heather Powers, Shaye (Emily) Powers, Neil (Tracey) Anderson & Sharla Anderson, along with 16 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, 4 siblings: Lloyd Powers, Gerald Powers, Dale Powers, and Luanna Powers (Mothershead), and his faithful companion Polecat.

Dennis was raised in Southeast Idaho but moved to the Salt Lake City area shortly after high school and began a career with UPS. He started as a driver and through his dedication, integrity, loyalty, and incredible driving skills he was able to work his way to Feeder Manager. After leaving UPS in 1989, he enjoyed careers with two companies he loved, Godfrey Trucking in West Valley, Utah and Liquid Transport in Liberty, Missouri. He was able to navigate the largest of trucks & trailers through the narrowest of places, with ease. His loving and patient wife Rhonda was always eager to accompany and help him navigate many trips across the nation.

Dennis had a passion for hunting. He was a member of multiple gun clubs in Salt Lake City where he started shooting competitively in 1983 and was also a member of the International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association (IHMSA). He loved sharing his passion for guns with friends and family and was admired greatly because of it. He loaded his own ammunition and shared that passion with others as well.

Boating and being on the water was something Dennis truly loved. Summers would find him surrounded by family and friends at his favorite spots like Flaming Gorge, Lake Powell, Table Rock Lake, among others. He could maneuver a boat as well as any truck. He never ceased to amaze with his skill.

Dennis' sometimes gruff appearing exterior was overshadowed by his love for family, his willingness to sacrifice anything for anyone, loyalty, integrity, and grit. His funny and of course, sarcastic personality, would always keep everyone close to his heart and theirs. Let us not forget his love of shopping and sharing all of not only his passions, but his support of other's passions by always making sure everyone had more than what they needed to thrive.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Shriner's Children's Hospital – Patient Travel Fund. Please reference email for sharlaj@hawaii.edu

Special thanks to all who knew Dennis, who helped shape him and supported him through his 69 years of extraordinary and memorable life. His family is humbled by the overwhelming outpouring of love and appreciation received during this time.
