Delores Jane Jeter ("Beb"), age 95, passed away January 16th, 2024. She was born on February 20th, 1928, in one of the oldest farmhouses in the state of Iowa. She was born to Roy and Margaret (Tranter) Greer of Iowa City, Iowa.
As a young girl Delores's favorite pastime was riding her horses. It was not uncommon to catch her racing trains and hopping railroad tracks. Her mother would often receive a call from the railroad saying, "she's going to get herself killed". One of her favorite stories to tell, was about she and her brother Reese throwing rocks at the coal car workers and in return, the workers would throw pieces of coal. They would then collect the coal, take it to town, and sell it for five cents a piece! With their earnings they would go to the movies.
Delores married Donald Jeter in 1947 in Iowa City, Iowa. Don worked for Southwestern Bell which required them to transfer to several cities until they settled in Kansas City, KS in 1967 where they raised their two children Alan and Linda. Delores worked for the Census Bureau for 20 years.
Faith was an important aspect in her life and she was a devout Christian. Delores couldn't say no to a good garage sale, a banana split, or an episode of
Wheel of Fortune. She was great at talking herself out of a traffic violation, most likely when she was on her way to have her hair styled.
She is survived by her son Alan Jeter, daughter Linda Guajardo, nephew Dana Greer, niece Lisa Tomash, five grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Reese Greer.
Graveside services will be held at Pleasant Valley Cemetery 9501 W 159th Street, Overland Park KS 66221. Friday January 27, 2024 at 1pm.
