Delores Jean Hamblin

Delores "Dee" Jean Hamblin, 84, of Olathe, passed away April 7, 2017.
Dee was born to Eugene and Jessie Murry on March 25, 1933 in Columbus, KS.

She graduated from Columbus High School and on September 2, 1950, married Melvin Andres of Topeka. They met during an ice storm at a high school basketball game. Melvin worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and was sent to Columbus to help with phone lines during the ice storm. Over the years, they resided in New Jersey, Alaska and Olathe, KS.

Dee worked as a homemaker, raising four children. When the children were older, she went to work for the Olathe School District as a cook and served lunches at Central Elementary. Later, she was employed as a file clerk for the Johnson County District Court Office. Her last job was an onion ring cook at Sonic, where she was named the "Onion Ring Queen".

Dee was active in the community, her church, and her children's schools. She held offices in the Jaycee Janes and the Olathe Grange Club, and in 1968 was awarded the "Outstanding Young Woman Award" in Olathe. She taught Sunday School and later became an office volunteer at church. She also loved to embroidery, play cards, go to the casino, work puzzles and enjoyed cooking for family gatherings.

Dee was preceded in death by her three husbands, Melvin Andres, Larry Nostrand, and Linville Hamblin, her son Mike Andres, her grand-daughter Dawn White, her parents, Eugene and Jessie Murry and her sister, Nancy Wise.

She is survived by her three daughters, Deborah White of Olathe, Cynthia Harris of Topeka, and Lisa Packard of Tonganoxie, sons-in-law Charles White, and Doug Harris, eight grandchildren, Stephanie Barnhill and husband Jason of Lawrence, Rachel Martin and husband P.J. of Oklahoma City, Shelby Walley of Oklahoma City, Sadie Allen and husband Kevin of Oklahoma City, and Adam Beard of Florida, five great-grandchildren Bradleigh, Chase, and Payton Martin, Paizlee and Tatym Walley and friend Harold Hodge.


Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 14, 2017, at 12:00 pm at First Baptist Church, 2024 E. 151st St., Olathe, KS where the family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. A lunch will follow at the church.
