Delia Mae Pittman, PhD. 60, of Olathe, KS went to be with her Savior Sunday October 21, 2012 at the University of Kansas Medical Center. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Delia M. Pittman Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of MidAmerica Nazarene University Foundation, 2030 E. College Way, Olathe, KS 66062.
Delia was born Sept. 12, 1952 in Kankakee, IL to Willis and Wahnona Snowbarger. After growing up in Bourbonnais, IL, she moved to Kansas City in 1965 and finished her high school years at Shawnee Mission South, graduating in 1970. While still in high school, she met Garry Pittman at youth group at Kansas City First Church of the Nazarene. She then attended MidAmerica Nazarene College, getting married to Garry in 1973 and graduating in 1974. She later returned to MidAmerica Nazarene College (University) to teach in the Nursing Division. In 2006, she obtained her PhD from University of Kansas in Education. She was both a life-long student and educator, who was known for her encouragement, compassion, faith, and her gentle and kind spirit. But she will especially be remembered for her love of missions and her family. Her family and grandchildren were the love of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Wahnona Snowbarger.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years Garry Pittman. She is also survived by her children: Angie Sears and husband, Travis, of San Antonio, TX; Scott Pittman and wife, Amanda, of Olathe, KS; Jessica Johnson and husband, Dan, of Olathe, KS; grandchildren, Bella, Bianca, and Jacob Pittman and Juliana Sears; brother, Vince Snowbarger and wife, Carolyn, of Bristow, VA.
