Delbert Grover

March 3, 1939 — October 21, 2015

Delbert Alvin Grover, of Olathe, Ks., passed away on October 21, 2015, at home with family at his side. His passing came after more than 15 years of defying congestive heart failure and other complications of the disease.

Delbert was born on Mar. 3, 1939, in Stockton, Ks., to Myrtle and Sylvan Grover. He was the youngest of 17 children who were raised in Kansas during some of the most adverse times our nation has known. The challenges of the times and his hard-working parents instilled in him, at a very early age, an incredible work ethic that he demonstrated and taught until his death. Delbert married Marilyn Joan Schugart on Aug. 26, 1959 and the couple lived in Kansas most of their 56-year marriage, where they raised their six children.

If you haven't heard one of Delbert's jokes, then, you don't know Delbert. Despite the many parenting, financial and health challenges he faced over the course of his lifetime, he loved to laugh and make others laugh. He would stop a physician in the pre-op room before a heart procedure and make him listen to one of his jokes.

He was preceded in death by his parents and all but three of his 16 brothers and sisters, his father and mother-in-law Fred and Velma Schugart, his son-in-law John Gerstberger, and infant great-grand-daughter, Emma Violet Frohling. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Olathe, Ks.; son Greg Grover and daughter-in-law Audrey of Wellsville, Ks.; daughter Kelly Reinhardt and son-in-law Brad Reinhardt of Shawnee, Ks.; daughter Denise Gerstberger of Leoti, Ks.; son David Grover and daughter-in-law Jodi of Cheney, Ks.; son Kyle Grover and daughter-in-law Lisa of Seattle, Wa.; daughter Sarah Rundus and son-in-law Dan of Basehor, Ks.; and his 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
