Debora Susan Hurt, 69, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. She was born on November 6, 1954 in Wichita, Kansas to Robert and Doris (Rowland) Stroer.
Debora grew up in Wichita, KS and Edmonds, Washington with seven brothers and sisters. She attended Meadowdale High School. After High School Debora spent time living abroad in Greece and England. She also lived in Georgia where she worked as a radio DJ. Her traveling experiences left an indelible mark on her. Debora would delight her children with stories of her travels and she never missed a chance to call them out in Greek.
Debora was a devoted mother and an exceptional salesperson. She won several awards during her career. Debora always had an eye for a good deal and she loved buying gifts for her friends and family. Her career eventually led her to the Kansas City area, where she settled down with her two sons in Overland Park, KS. Debora met J.W. in 2002 and they were married in May 2005.
Debora had many hobbies including gardening, fostering kittens, collecting seashells when she visited the beach, and making jewelry. In her later years Debora became a devoted grandmother. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Debora is survived by her loving husband, J.W. Hurt, sons, Eliott (Kara) Hanks and Zachary (Emily) Hanks, grandchildren, Josephine, Benjamin, Nicholas, and Matthew.
She was preceded in death by her Mother, Father, and siblings Brock Stroer, Bobby Stroer, Mitzi Cash, and Ronnie Stroer.
The family requests that contributions in Debora's memory be made to any animal rescue group.
