David Lee Thomson

David Lee Thomson, 88, of Overland Park, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2022 at Nottingham Health and Rehabilitation.

He was born on January 28, 1934 to Estel and Leota Thomson at Stanwood, IA.

Upon graduation from Iowa State he worked for Sherwin Williams. He also worked for Mobil Oil and Champlin Oil.

On Oct. 25, 1953 , he married the love of his life Rita Rae (Morris), and they made their home in Clarion, Iowa. David & Rita moved to Kansas City in 1968 where he began his 32 year career as a Insurance agent for State Farm, retiring in 1999.

Dave & Rita recently celebrated 69 years of marriage. They are members of Christ Community Church.

Dave & Rita loved spending time at Lake of the Ozarks, travelling with friends, golfing and family ski trips. David was a member of the Valley View Optimist Club for 40 years.

In 2014, Dave & Rita moved to Tallgrass Creek Retirement Community (a cruise ship that never leaves land).

David is survived by his devoted wife, Rita, and their children Kimberly Bretches (JR) & Scott (Kathy) Thomson and Jamee Thomson. Grandchildren Monica Weger (Gabe), Bailey & Erica Thomson. Evan Bretches, Chase (Sierra) Bretches, Taylor (Angie) Bretches, Travis & Trevor Thomson. Great grandchildren Riley & Remi and 2 great grandsons arriving in March & June 2023. He is also survived by his brothers Donald Thomson (Nancy) and Lyle Thomson (Orlou), and many nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Steven Thomson, DDS. and brother Lowell Thomson.

David was a loving & faithful husband, father, grandfather & great-grandfather and a loyal friend to many. He will be missed by all who knew him.
