David J. O'Brien, Jr.

June 1, 1922 — February 6, 2018

Retired Chief Petty Officer, David John O'Brien Jr., 95, Olathe, Kansas, sailed into Heaven on February 6, 2018. Dave was born June 1, 1922 in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin to David John and Ethel Mona (Monte) O'Brien.

Dave enlisted in the United States Navy in 1941 and served his country for 23 years. He was a Veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was aboard the Midway, Bon Homme Richard and the second Yorktown during his worldwide Navy career.

In 1958 Dave was stationed at the Olathe Naval Airstation to teach in the Ground Control Approach Unit. He liked Olathe so much he moved his family there and he has lived there ever since.

Dave met Mary Jane Chadwick and they were married April 9, 1977. They have shared over 40 wonderful years together.

Dave was a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion Post 153, where he served as a Commander, Historian and Color Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Barbara (Bobbie) and his sister Bonnie.

He is survived by his twin brother Dell O'Brien, Manistique, Michigan, his wife Mary Jane, Daughters, Terry Robins, Mary Jane Norman, Susan House, Bobbi Davidson and Vicki Kellem. 13 Grandchildren, Debbie Gehlbach, Barbie Diederich, Krysti Diederich, Stephen O'Brien, Trevor House, Skylor House, Michael Norman, Barbara Rowland, Shane Fleming, Michelle Fleming, Matthew Davidson, Cody Davidson and Autricia Knight.

13 Great Grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Color Guard of the American Legion Post 153.
