David Douglas Lutz was welcomed home in Heaven on January 22, 2019, after a short, but valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his parents, Dixie and Harold Lutz, wife, Konnie Lutz, and children, Brandon Lutz, Kaitlyn Lutz-Henson, and Wesley Henson. He is also survived by his brother, Mark Lutz, niece, Karli Lutz, Jack and Lynda Hill, and numerous cousins.
David was born on July 6, 1957, in Ft. Madison, Iowa. He graduated from Shawnee Heights High School in 1975 and received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Kansas in 1980. He was successful in the construction and design/build industry for 40 years having been employed by BRB Contractors, Clean Water Construction, Black & Veatch, and most recently HDR Constructors. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Design-Build Institute of America. In addition to his professional acumen and work ethic, he was appreciated for his character, kindness to everyone, and strong moral compass. David's immense love of family was known by everyone he met. Favorite pastimes included reading, traveling, and restoring his 1953 Chevy pickup.
A visitation with family will be held at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Olathe, Kansas, on Friday, January 25th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a memorial service on Saturday, January 26th at 10:00 a.m., also at Penwell-Gabel. Graveside services will start at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Berryton, and the family will receive visitors at Berryton United Methodist Church immediately thereafter. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be sent to support the excellent services at Kansas City Hospice House (https://www.kchospice.org) or the Lustgarten Foundation (https://www.lustgarten.org) to aid in research regarding early detection of pancreatic cancer.
