David "Dave" M. Martens

March 22, 1956 — March 14, 2025

David M. Martens, a noted builder and developer in Johnson County, Kansas, departed this life on March 14, 2025, in Olathe, surrounded by loved ones while in hospice care. He was born on March 22, 1956, in Olathe, where he spent much of his life building not only structures but also lasting relationships.

Dave was a proud alumnus of Olathe High School, where he laid the foundation for a successful career that would come to define him in his community. His passion for construction and development left a lasting impact across Johnson County, shaping the landscapes and communities in which so many now thrive.

In both his personal and professional life, Dave was known for his unwavering dedication and work ethic. He embraced the challenges of building and developing with a spirit that inspired those around him.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Dave held a deep love for motorcycles, often finding joy and freedom as he rode through the open roads. He spent summers finding peaceful coves at the Ozark’s raising his kids and grandkids to have a love and respect for lake life.

He became a pilot in his 30’s and enjoyed flying friends and family to various new places. Sometimes landing in a new spot just for a bathroom break and taking off again. He was always challenging himself to learn more, was always curious and always up for the ultimate adventure or creating one any chance he got….His zest for life resonated with every endeavor he undertook with a vibrant spirit.

Dave is survived by his devoted wife, Liz Martens, and their children: Christy and Steve Jaso, Carrie Hyer and Paul Heiman, and Justin Martens. He was a cherished grandfather to Alyssa Jaso, Karsyn Jaso, Bella Jaso, Madison Martens, Natalie Martens, Lyvia Martens, Avery Hyer, Emme Hyer, and Damien Heiman, bringing joy and warmth to their lives. He also celebrated his role as a great-grandfather to Princeton Joe Huggins and an anticipated baby girl to arrive soon.

Dave's legacy will endure through his siblings: George Martens, Steve Martens, Janelle Larson, Phil Martens, Carla Martens, and Larry Schaub, and alongside his many friends, who will remember him fondly for his humor, kindness and generosity.

He joins in eternal rest his parents, George and Martha Martens, along with his brother Dennis Martens and sister Sis Schaub, who preceded him in death.
