Darrell Bert Hargiss (78) of Olathe, Ks passed away at home on September 25, 2009 after a long illness. He leaves behind his wife Juanita Hargiss, four children; Dennis and Terry Hargiss, Belinda Patton, and Rhonda Leeker and also four grandchildren; Aaron Hargiss, Brandi Leeker, Bobby Butler, and Briana Leeker and two great-grand children; Hunter and Kalob Hargiss. Darrell also leaves behind one sister, Joey Collins. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents Bert and Vesta Hargiss (Nelson), stepfather Steve Nelson and one brother, Ivan Nelson. He was born to Bert and Vesta Hargiss on February 8, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri. On March 17, 1951 Darrell married his wife of 58 years, Juanita Hungerford. He was saved on October 18, 1944 and joined Elkton Missionary Baptist Church. Darrell was an ordained Missionary Baptist preacher for over forty-five years. He served in the U.S. Air force for three and a half years and was stationed in San Antonio, Texas. After the Air force Darrell then worked for Wilcox Electric Company for thirty-five years before retiring. His heart was with the Church's, the lost, and the family. His prayers were for all his grandchildren to hear the old time gospel and to be saved. He would always say what a reunion it will be "when we all get to heaven." Visitation will be Friday October 2, 2009 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. the service will follow at 7 p.m at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral home Olathe, Kansas. He will be laid to rest on Saturday October 3, 2009 at Roundtree Cemetery in Wheatland, Missouri at 1:30 p.m. The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during his illness.
