Darrell E. Chambers

January 24, 1945 — October 13, 2020

Darrell Eugene Chambers, father and husband, passed away unexpectedly on October 13, 2020 at the age of 75.

Born January 24, 1945 to Robert and Geraldine Chambers in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Darrell enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, singing in choir, and performing in school plays. In 1966, Darrell enlisted in the Navy where he served as Petty Officer Chambers aboard the USS Maury for four years where he found his love of the ocean porting in and out of Hawaii. It should be known that during this time, somehow, Darrell was awarded the "Good Conduct Medal". After returning to the US, Darrell spent a year working at the Pentagon while studying at the University of Maryland. He relocated to Dallas to complete his education graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration Banking and Finance from the University of North Texas. While in school, he met his forever love, Marian (Burkard) Chambers. The two were married and started their family in Houston, then moved to Edmond, Oklahoma for work and eventually settled in Overland Park, Kansas in 1988 where they raised their family and currently reside.

Darrell had a long, successful career in banking, finishing as Senior Vice President for Central Bank of the Midwest (formerly Metcalf Bank) where he was an integral part of their bank family for 25 years. Darrell was often the first one at the office in the morning and the last to leave in the evening and often spent weekends working on loans for his clients, whom he also considered dear friends. He loved his work and his co-workers and made many memories participating in events like organizing the Chamber golf tournaments, helping with the Overland Park Christmas Tree Lighting, or by dressing up as the infamous Sophia Petrillo from the Golden Girls.

To Darrell, his most prized accomplishment was that of his family. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren more than life itself. There wasn't a prouder father than Darrell; he was often found bragging of his children's successes. He adored his grandchildren and they adored Grandpa too. Darrell loved traveling with Marian and swinging a little two-step on the dance floor too. Darrell was the life of the party, who loved to laugh and make practical jokes. And if Darrell ever went missing, you'd be sure to find him right of the stick man throwing the dice, working to complete the "ALL".

To all those that loved Darrell, we would all say the same… He was the kindest, most good-hearted human we've ever known. He was always looking for the best in everything and everyone he met. May we always remember his jovial spirit and feel lucky to have known such an extraordinary man.

Darrell is survived by his wife Marian; son Christopher and wife, Jennifer of Overland Park, KS and their children Eric and Gwen; son Jonathan and wife, Lindsey of Lenexa, KS and their children Alexis and Mia; and daughter Marianne and fiancé Maxwell of Los Angeles, CA. Darrell will be fondly remembered by close friends, colleagues, nieces, nephews and extended family. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents and sister Cheryl (Chambers) Cook.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at 2:00 PM at The Venue in Leawood located at 4800 W 135th Street, Leawood, KS 66224. A gathering of friends and family will continue after the service until 5:00 PM. Social distancing will be practiced and face coverings are required.
