Danny Robert Hundley, 76, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023. He was born on September 5, 1947 in Olney, Illinois to James and Luella (Myers) Hundley.
Danny attended East Richland High School in Olney, Illinois and graduated from Cardington-Lincoln High School in 1965 in Cardington, Ohio. Danny served his country for over 28 years in the United States Marine Corps, entering as an Air Defense Control Officer and retiring as a Colonel in 1999 with numerous decorations to include the Legion of Merit.
He attended Olney Central College in Olney, Illinois, earned his Bachelor's degree at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois, and earned his Master's degree at Eastern Illinois University as well.
After separation from the military, Danny worked as a teacher/professor for several years before returning to work for the government as a civilian. He worked at Marine Corps Systems Command in Quantico, Virginia for over 5 years before retiring for a second time. He was very active within the church community and enjoyed several Bible study groups.
Danny is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Charlotte (Gerber) Hundley; children James (Sabrina) Hundley of Midland, VA and Sherri (Chad) Younger of Olathe, KS; grandchildren Alexander (Kelsey) Hundley of Stafford, VA, Mackenzie Younger, Zachary Younger, Jacob Younger, and Kyleigh Younger all of
Olathe, KS; siblings Shirley (Roger) Boatman of Fort Wayne, IN, Bonnie (John) Jewett of Springfield, IL, and Donnie (Tonya) Hundley of Ridge Farm, IL; brother-in-law Al Rasner of Casper, WY; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents James and Luella Hundley and sister Beth Rasner.
The family will receive guests for a visitation from 9:00am to 10:00am on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Olathe, KS. His funeral service will follow at 10:00am. Burial with military honors will be at Olathe Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church or The Lutheran Hour. Donations to either can be mailed to Beautiful Savior Lutheran, 13145 S Black Bob Rd, Olathe, KS 66062.
