Ms. Danielle R. Green was born on June 21, 1975. The world lost the most confident, positive, bright beacon of love and happiness on March 12, 2021.
Dani never spoke a word (besides yah, yah, yah), but you always knew she was your biggest fan. She made everyone feel like they were the center of her universe and she never met someone she didn't like. She was the happiest, most joy filled person on the planet. She LOVED life, and everything and everyone so much! Danielle was always up for a good time and made the most of any occasion… a dance party, a scenic ride, an errand… anything. She loved being part of the action and being the center of attention. She was a regular at the beauty and nail salon. She lived for looking pretty and being complimented. She was the master of high fives, thumbs up and a pat on the back. If you were feeling down, she would brighten your day. If everyone in the world had just a touch of Dani's confidence and love, what an amazing world this would be.
Dani loved Jack the Frenchie, helping around the house, baby dolls, wearing jewelry, manicures, having her hair done, having her picture taken, looking at pictures, fashionable glasses, and SHREDDING PAPER.
At the time of her passing, Dani was working on her 'over 40' bucket list. To date she had her own float in the Overland Park Parade, rang the bell for the Salvation Army, got her ears pierced, had a photo shoot, spent the night at the Great Wolf Lodge, won a gold medal, and got a communication device.
Dani had a very active social life. She participated in Champs Achievers American Karate, KCK Champs Special Olympics, Heartland Therapeutic Riding, Skills to Succeed Day Service and One Step At A Time Residential Service. At day service she participated in art classes helping children, petting cats at the ASPCA, pushing the cart at Meals on Wheels, rolling silverware at the soup kitchen, worked out at the Olathe Community Center and many other activities.
She leaves behind her father, Danny Green (Olathe), her paternal Grandmother, Tressie Green (Kansas City), two brothers (California), many other relatives and many friends and staff. She also leaves behind long time caregiver Harrietta Harris, legal guardian Linda Lott and bestie Ahli Hedges.
She was preceded in death by her Mother, Sandy Green, her paternal Grandfather, Alford Green, and her roommate, Cydne Boyington. Danielle will live on through the gift of being an organ donor through Midwest Transplant.
Danielle was fortunate to have a wonderful group… no, entourage of people who loved and supported her. Thank you to her case managers, direct care staff, nail technicians, hair stylists, volunteers, organizations, and friends. You made her life so memorable and amazing. A special thank you to her physician, Patrick Herrick, the entire team at Olathe Medical Center ER and CCU and to the Pulmonary, Respiratory, and Gastroenterology departments. Your compassion and care the past two weeks has been so appreciated and respected.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Danielle's memory to Skills To Succeed, 413 E Santa Fe St, Olathe, KS 66061 (www.theskillstosucceed.org) or Heartland Therapeutic Riding, 19655 Antioch Rd, Overland Park, KS 66013 (www.htrkc.org). Danielle thoroughly enjoyed these amazing programs which serve and enrich the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities.
In honor of Danielle, tell someone they are doing a good job, give them a pat on the back, a high five, a round of applause or a thumbs up. Smile at someone so hard, your eyes close. Be someone's biggest cheerleader, even for the little things. Become a legal guardian to help advocate for and enrich the lives of someone who needs a voice.
Dani was such a kind and gentle soul. She truly made the world a better place.
You'll be missed Dani-girl…
