Daniel J. O'Brien (81) passed away on February 6th, 2013 at home surrounded by his wife and children.
Dan was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 23rd, 1931. He grew up on the Southside of Chicago and then moved to Belvidere, where he met Ruth and graduated from Belvidere High School. He was a graduate of Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and earned his B.S. in Biology. Dan went on to earn a Masters degree at Southern Illinois University in Physiology, and a Phd in both Pharmacology and Toxicology from Indiana University.
he worked 25 years in Industry at Gillette Corporation, Lakeside Laboratories, where he was Head of Governmental Regulatory Affairs for US, Canada, and Great Britain. He retired from industry to start his consulting firm D.J. O'Brien and Associates focusing on drug labeling cases. He retired after 20 years.
In 1957, he married Ruth Glass his high school sweetheart. They celebrated 55 years of marriage. Dan leaves behind his wife Ruth, daughter Mary Kathleen Patrick, son Kevin O'Brien and two granddaughters Mackenzie and Megan Patrick, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel J. O'Brien and Mary Horan O'Brien.
He was a proud Irishman through and through, and his gentle Irish humor will be greatly missed.
