Daniel J. Steele, (December 21, 1938 - February 25, 2020) was born in Coffeyville, Kansas, to Clara Trevithick Steele, and J.J. Steele. He had five siblings, Leona, Herb, Esther, Lee (deceased), and Evangeline. He attended Bethany Nazarene College (now Southern Nazarene University) in Bethany, Oklahoma. In college, he met Carolyn Swigart and was married in 1960. From this union have come three children, Timothy Mark (Suzi Steele) Steele, Phillip Brian (Gary Young) Steele, Dana Cherie Steele, and four grandchildren, Dane Steele, Blake Steele, Emma Ruth Steele-Sierk and Samuel John Steele-Sierk.
Dan was ordained to serve as clergy in 1964. He has had various roles, including pastor, associate pastor of youth ministries, music minister, campus minister, teacher, and compassion minister in California, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Ohio and Texas. He served as adjunct voice teacher at Mt. Vernon Nazarene University in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and instructor in Church Music at Nazarene Theological Seminary in K.C., Missouri.
His formal education includes the completion of academic programs for the Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy and Religion at Southern Nazarene University, a Master's Degree in Ministry at Nazarene Theological Seminary in K.C., MO, a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance at the University of Missouri in K.C., and a Doctorate of Ministry at Nazarene Theological Seminary. He has sung in four university choirs and conducted one seminary choir, one university choir, four large church choirs, and numerous small church choirs. He has been principal soloist in two university operas, many recitals and concerts, and in innumerable church-related conferences and worship services.
The family will receive guests for a visitation on Saturday, February 29, 2020, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene in Kansas City, MO, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m.
