Daniel B. Lawless,
of Overland Park, Kansas, 76, passed away at his home on February 18, 2009. Dan was born on May 19, 1932 and grew up in Kansas City. He graduated from Rockhurst High School in 1949 and then attended St. Benedicts College in Atchison, KS. He later served in the United States Army.
He took seriously his role as husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Dan never met a stranger. He was devoted to his faith and involved in his church, Prince of Peace in Olathe, KS and C'ure of Ars in Leawood, KS. He served on the board of the Johnson County Serra Club for the last 10 years. Dan's departure, while expected, leaves his family and friends with a deep sadness, replaced only by the joy of knowing he is now at peace in the arms of his Father.
He is survived by his wife Janice, and his children; Jeanne and husband Dick Modin of Kansas City, MO, Debbie and husband Lee Butler of Liberal, KS, Julie and husband Chris Matthews of Prairie Village, KS, Diane Putthoff of Kansas City, MO and Dan Lawless, Jr. of Prairie Village, KS.
Dan was preceded in death by his brother Martin Lawless, Jr. and sisters Adaline (Ging) Lawless and Betty Lawless Ambrose and grandson Luke Modin.
Other survivors include brother Tom and wife Mari Lawless of Overland Park, KS, sisters Margaret Ann Weinand and Jean Lonergan of Santa Marta, 12 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
A prayer service will be held at Cure' of Ars Catholic Church on Friday, February 20, 2009 at 6:00pm with visitation to follow. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2009, at Cure' of Ars at 10:00am. Interment, Resurrection Cemetery.
