November 22, 1966 — January 10, 2024

November 22, 1966 – January 10, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to William Daniel Ward, known to those close to him as Danny. He was a devoted husband to Jean, a proud father of Ethan (Kara) & Jordan (Chris) and GrandDan of Dean & Joel. A cherished son to Larry & Patricia, brother to Teresa (Neal), Lisa, Patrick (Angie) and Uncle to 11 Nephews & 4 Nieces. Danny peacefully departed from this world on January 10, 2024, surrounded by loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Danny lived his entire life in Olathe, KS. He attended Aquinas High School in Shawnee, KS, graduating in 1985. Danny was a natural athlete and enjoyed playing sports throughout his life. Growing up he played baseball, basketball, football, and track & field. Danny went on to attend Johnson County Community College, where he also played on their baseball team. Later he played men's softball, co-ed softball, bowled and golfed with his friends.

Danny's first job was working for his grandfather, Ethan Trim, at Barlow Truck Lines. Danny would work in the warehouse and occasionally go on long haul trips with his grandfather. While in high school, Danny worked at Long John Silvers in the Oak Park Mall. This was one of Danny's favorite jobs and where he met the love of his life.

Danny & Jean were married on November 5, 1988, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lenexa, KS. They moved into the basement apartment of Danny's grandmother, Mary Trim. In 1990, they welcomed their son, Ethan. In 1991, Danny & Jean bought their first home and soon after welcomed their daughter, Jordan, in 1992. Danny & Jean raised their children in this home and lived here until 2017. Danny & Jean have lived in their current home since 2017.

Danny spent the last 25 years as the branch manager for Top Care, Inc. in Edwardsville, KS. Danny was very proud of his accomplishments at Top Care. He made lifelong friendships while at Top Care and will miss them all dearly.

Danny played an instrumental role in the lives of his extended family members. He had a special bond with his brother, Patrick and family, where our families made many special memories together. He especially enjoyed any gathering in which the whole family and friends were together. Danny had a unique ability to bring people together, fostering a sense of unity and belonging that created a tightly knit bond. His wisdom, guidance, and unwavering support were a source of strength to his family and friends.

Danny's love for the outdoors was expressed through his passion for hunting and the tranquility of nature. Many memories were made during hunting trips, where bonds were strengthened, and stories were shared around the campfire. No matter what, Danny always made the hunting trip. His favorite hunt was his last mule deer hunt after his surgery in 2022. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who shared those special moments with him.

Beyond his passion for the outdoors, Danny had a talent for grilling that extended beyond backyard barbecues. Danny showcased his love for cooking in BBQ competitions, as part of the Griswold Grillers, and at family events. His competitive spirit and dedication to perfecting his craft were a testament to his zest for life and the joy he found in sharing his creations with his friends and family.

In addition to his outdoor pursuits and culinary endeavors, Danny was a dedicated family man. He devoted countless hours to coaching his children's sports teams during their formative years. His guidance, encouragement, and support shaped not only their athletic abilities but also instilled in them the values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the V Foundation. Danny appreciated that every dollar went to funding research.

A memorial visitation will be held Monday January 22nd from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home with funeral mass to follow on Tuesday January 23rd at 10:00 AM at St Paul's Catholic Church (21650 W 115th Terr, Olathe, KS 66061).
