Dale Bruce Parke, formerly of Prairie Village, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2020, at the age of 82. He was born on March 26, 1938, to Harold and Elsie (Heiland) Parke in Dayton, Ohio and grew up in nearby Sidney, Ohio. Dale attended Ohio State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. He was a member of Theta Xi Fraternity.
While at Ohio State, Dale met his future wife, Kay. The newlyweds moved to New Jersey where Dale began work for the Public Health Service. While in New Jersey, Dale became active with the Boy Scouts of America, which continued as the growing family moved to Prairie Village, Kansas in 1968. His interest and support encouraged all three of his sons to achieve the Eagle Scout Rank.
In Kansas, Dale worked for the EPA – Region 7 and retired in 2001 following a 38-year career. Weekends were typically spent going to the family farm where he kept horses and enjoyed getting away from the city. He was an avid quail and deer hunter (truthfully, he enjoyed all hunting that didn't involve water). Dale was also quite handy and loved projects, whether building a barn, fixing farm equipment, repairing cars, or tinkering with small projects, including a homemade deer hauling cart made from scrap materials.
Dale took great pride in his family. He was always there along the sidelines and in the stands cheering on his kids for every sport they played. When his kids grew up, he then found himself along the sidelines and in the stands cheering for his grandkids. He loved watching his grandkids participate in their various sports and activities including soccer, lacrosse, wrestling, cross country and even mutton busting at the county fair. Dale also looked forward to the holidays and birthdays they'd all celebrate together. Dale never turned down an excuse to get together for a meal or to have a bowl of ice cream.
Dale is survived by his loving children, Colonel (Dr.) Allan (Carolyn), Doug (Paula), Kellie Peak (Brian), Erick (Michelle); and grandchildren, Milbrey (Evan), Derek, Jane, Trevor, Connor, Christian, Lauren, Jersey, Kobe, Jordan, Kylie, and Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Kathryn "Kay" Parke; his parents; and his sister, Linda Parke.
A private service will be held at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Overland Park, KS.
