Our hearts are heavy as we share the news that Cynthia Cozad passed away at 11:11 pm on April 9, 2021.
She was born November 23, 1937 to Harold J. and Fern Dale Bonner, who preceded her in death. Cynthia grew up in Topeka, Kansas, where she attended Topeka High School and Washburn University. She married David Joseph (Joe) Cozad on June 1, 1957. She worked most of her adult life in the medical billing and health insurance industry, and was promoted into management positions in Professional Relations and Account Services at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, and Humana in Kansas City, Missouri.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years; three children, Kent Cozad, New York City; Kristie Cozad Richerson, Gardner, Kansas; and Kevin Cozad (Elaine), Rogers, Arkansas; her sister, Kathryn Flesher (Jack), Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren Matthew Richerson, Olathe; Brian Richerson (Hannah), Portage, Wisconsin; Taylor Cozad (Haley), Anderson, Missouri; and Patrick Richerson, Kansas City, Missouri; and great-grandchildren Nicholas, Warren, Vela, Caden, Landon, and Laney, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was welcomed into heaven by her parents and two sisters, Emolyn Spaulding, and Serena Nelson.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, April 14 from 2:30 to 4 pm at Penwell-Gabel in Olathe. Graveside services will be private for family.
We extend many thanks to the amazing staff of Good Shepherd Hospice, who cared for Cynthia and her family in her last months of life. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hospice are suggested.
