Curtis W. Anderson, 66, of Olathe, Kansas was born in Texas 1949 and passed away peacefully on April 27th 2016.
A Memorial of his life will be held at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home 14275 Blackbob Rd. Olathe, KS 66062. Visitations with the family will be on May 7th from 2pm – 3pm; Memorial Service 3pm.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 19 years, Joyce; stepdaughter, Krista Jeffers and her husband Chris, mother-in-law Mary Wetzel, brother-in-law Greg Wetzel, sister-in-law Rosemary Signorelli and her husband John and their three children: Jeremy (his wife Julie), Frances and Johnny, sister-in-law Janet Gonzales and her husband Mike and their two children: Jenna and Jordan, Uncle Alvis Wedgman and his wife Joan, Uncle Clifton Wedgman and his wife Deanna, Uncle Henry Owen and his wife Charlene, Uncle Gary Owen and his wife Diane, Uncle Modoc Owen, Uncle Jessie Owen.
He was preceded in death by his father Curtis D. Anderson, mother Myrna Louise Anderson and brother Robert L. Anderson.
He attended William Chrisman High School in Independence, Missouri and received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Central Missouri and also a Master of Arts in Sociology at the University of Central Missouri.
Curtis is a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served in the Army G Battalion 55th Artillery as a PFC rank E4 receiving the following service medals: National Defense Service Medal with 2 Overseas Bars, Vietnam Service Medal , Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal and First Oak Leaf Cluster for Meritorious Achievement in the Republic of Vietnam with Honorable Discharge.
He received a Black Belt in Okinawa Shorinryu Grade Sho-Dan November 9, 1987.
Curtis enjoyed spending time with his wife and close friends. Going to the Nascar races at the Kansas Speedway and vacationing in the Caribbean – Jamaica. His favorite sport was playing darts and always had the most "Hat-tricks". He also participated on his wife's recreational volleyball team and winning over a team of 20 year olds!
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to donate in his memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in honor of his stepdaughter Krista Jeffers. He participated annually in the JDRF One Walk on the family team, Junebug Joggers, to help find a Cure for Diabetes.
