COLLEEN (McCOWEN) PREWETT, beloved wife, daughter, and sister, was born into eternal life on May 3, 2010. She died of natural causes related to her long struggle with declining health. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 9:30 am at Church of the Nativity, 119th and Mission Rd., Leawood, KS, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Interment, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.
Colleen was born on April 30, 1976 in Atlanta, GA to Michael and Jesdon McCowen, the youngest of four daughters. She graduated from high school in 1994 in Bartlesville, OK, where she met the love of her life, Chad Prewett. Colleen received a B.A. in Social Work from Mt. Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, IA. Colleen and Chad were married on May 8, 1999 in Bartlesville, and began their life together in Kansas City, MO.
Colleen was employed by Jewish Vocational Service as manager of Vocational Rehab. She used her considerable skill and persistence to find employment for people with various special challenges. Eventually, Colleen's own physical disabilities forced her to retire. She endured many medical procedures in her efforts to return to health. Her body eventually failed her, but her spirit never did.
Colleen is survived by her husband, Chad, of the home, her parents, Michael and Jesdon McCowen, her sisters, Amy Nordhues (Barry), Jennifer Green(Jon), and Caryn Campbell (Kevin). She is also survived by her father and mother-in-law, Glenn and Nancy Prewett, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her pound puppy, "Ziggy". Colleen is remembered fondly for her love of gardening and especially for her tireless work on behalf of the disadvantaged.
