Clarissa Ann Carr

December 6, 1929 — February 22, 2018

Clarissa Ann Carr, 88, of Gardner, Kansas, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away February 22, 2018 at the Olathe Medical Center after a short illness.

Clarissa was born December 6, 1929, in Waterloo, Iowa to Louis Henry Funk and Clara Belle (Varner) Funk. She grew up in Waterloo, Iowa and graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1948.

On June 24, 1948 she married her true love, Marcus Carr. They shared 67 devoted years together.

Clarissa and Marcus were the parents of two children, Diana and Brian (deceased). She was an excellent homemaker known especially for her delicious homemade treats at Christmas. She enjoyed gardening and grew African violets as a hobby. Clarissa spent her spare time making family scrapbooks which will leave her loved ones with many cherished memories. She was also a great lover of music and enjoyed playing the piano. She even collected miniature pianos.

Clarissa's Christian faith and love of God were the focus of her life. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Cedar Rapids for over 50 years. She served as church pianist for many of those years. She also enjoyed teaching Sunday school and will be remembered fondly by her many students. Clarissa had many friends in her church family.

Clarissa was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marcus, son Brian, and great-granddaughter Caroline; sisters Eleanor Ross, Louise McKinney, and a stillborn brother Franklin Dwight Funk.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Diana (Paul) Stevens, grandson Drew (Christina) Stevens, and sister Lulu McKinney.

She also leaves a caring daughter-in-law, Linda Carr; grandsons, Pete (Kelly) Carr, Quinn (Stephanie) Carr; granddaughters, Maggie Carr and Hilary (Dustin) Nekvinda; and eight great-grandchildren.

We will remember Clarissa for her life long devotion to Christ, her love of family and music, and the kindness she showed to all who knew her. We look forwards to the day we will be reunited in God's great Kingdom.

The family will receive friends for a visitation from 1:30 – 2:30PM at College Church of the Nazarene – Garret Chapel in Olathe, KS on Wednesday, February 28, 2018.
