Cindy Kae (Boerger) Banks

April 17, 1963 — August 7, 2021

Cindy Kae (Boerger) Banks, 58, of Leawood, passed away on August 7, 2021, at home in the arms of her family.

Cindy was born on April 17, 1963 to Dick and Linda (Taddiken) Boerger in Topeka, KS.
The Boerger family moved to Wichita in 1977, where Cindy graduated from Southeast High School. She then went on to University of Kansas and earned a B.A. in English and minor in French. She met some of her life-long friends there, many as fellow members of Delta Gamma sorority.

On August 24th, 1985, she married Todd Banks. Todd and Cindy were each other's first date in middle school, became debate partners in high school, with romance that blossomed in college.

They soon moved to make their first home in Houston where Cindy began her career with Southwestern Bell Telecom. She earned the position with a creative interview sales pitch involving a mouse trap: a story that is still told.

In 1992, they moved back to Wichita where Cindy concluded her corporate career after earning multiple yearly sales achievement awards, while also active in the Junior League. Soon Andrew was born, and then three years later, Margaret. Cindy loved motherhood and found immense joy in her family.

In 1998 an opportunity to explore the world presented itself. Cindy excitedly packed the family up for a move to London. This proved to be an experience of a lifetime that Cindy truly enjoyed. Their home in Walton-on-Thames became a welcoming place for family and friends, a source of many good memories and adventures. The Garden Club and verdant gardens of England held great happiness for Cindy and carried inspiration in her homes.

Soon all roads lead back home to Kansas and the family moved to Leawood, where Cindy's parents had settled along with both of her brothers nearby. Todd launched a business and Cindy built a home for the family.

Perpetually active, Cindy enjoyed golf, water skiing, snow skiing, family vacations, scrapbooking, birdwatching, interior decorating, baking and gardening. Always graceful, stylish and skillful in each.

Cindy's resilience and positive outlook on life was perfectly unmissable by everyone she met. Her unforgettable smile, sense of humor and infectious laugh brought joy to every situation.

Cindy is survived by her loving husband Todd, her children Andrew (Denver, CO) and Margaret (Santa Cruz, CA); parents Dick and Linda Boerger, brothers and sisters-in-law Jeff and Beth Boerger, Brad and Christina Boerger; sisters-in-law Dr. RoxAnn Banks Dicker and Michele Banks; and nine adoring nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents-in-law, Lee and Carlene Banks and brother-in-law, Scott Banks.

Nearly 20 years ago Cindy received a difficult Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis. Never letting this define her, she led an active and meaningful life. She lived every single day with indomitable positivity and happiness. She never once let her illness get in the way of being an engaged and wonderful mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.
Cindy and her mother Linda have been active champions of organizations funding MS research, namely the annual Walk MS: Kansas City for the National MS Society. Her "Come On Get Happy" Team for the MS Walk, now 14 years running, was noted for it's RV painted in a bright Partridge Family style with a large smiley face serving as a visual encouragement of her attitude. Even though in a wheelchair for over 17 years, she led here, as she did in her home, with great energy and care. Cindy and her family are very grateful for the many caregivers who helped her with this and the difficulties of living with MS.
