Christine E. Nied
July 14, 1920 – April 5, 2010
Christine Nied passed away on April 5 at Villa St. Francis in Olathe due to complications from pneumonia. Originally from Chicago, she came to the Kansas City area in 1952 before moving to New York, Connecticut, and Florida, eventually returning in 2001.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Frank J. Nied; son Thomas Nied; brothers Hank and Ted Homa; and sisters-in-law Evelyn Homa, Bernice Nied, and Anne Eme. She is survived by son Kenneth Nied; daughters-in-law Cindy and Virginia Nied; grandchildren Paul Nied, Pam Smith, Renee Stevens, and Megan Mitchell; and great-grandchildren Gus and Jack Mitchell; Brady, Lawson, and Lacy Smith; Ainsley and Logan Stevens; and Alex Nied.
Chris always made friends easily wherever she went. She enjoyed playing cards – you couldn't bluff her at poker – Yahtzee, Manhattan cocktails, and, of course, her grandkids and great-grandkids.
A private service will be held for immediate family members. The family requests that no flowers be sent and instead recommends donations to the American Cancer Society.
