Chester "Chet" Ray Petty was born on October 1st, 1935 and passed away on October 31, 2011 at his home with his family by his side. Chet was born in Chanute, Kansas to James and Ethel Petty who preceded him in death. Chester had four brothers and five sisters. He is survived by one sister, Maxine Wilson of Chanute, Kansas and his twin brother, Lester Petty also of Chanute, Kansas.
Chester Ray Petty and Gertrude Eileen Brooks, also known as "Eileen" of Erie, Kansas were married on March 23, 1956 in Chanute, Kansas. That is where they called home and started their family. Chet and Eileen have five children; Cynthia Petty of Overland Park, Kansas, Richard of Olathe, Kansas, Steven, James and Johnathan Petty all of De Soto, Kansas. Included in the family are eight grandsons, nine granddaughters and one deceased granddaughter, two great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter, five step grandchildren and one step great-grandchild.
Chet had a great love for the old time Bluegrass music and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He served his county in the United States Army and spent 18 month in North and South Korea starting in 1952.
Funeral service will be at Chanute Church of the Nazarene 1313 W. 14th Street at Plummer Avenue.
