Charles A. Zimmerman

Charles A. Zimmerman (Charley), 84, of Olathe, KS passed Sat. June 30th, 2018. Visitation will be 9:30AM Thurs. July 5th, at Grace United Methodist Church followed by the funeral service at 11AM. Private burial will be at Olathe Memorial Cemetery.


Charley was born July 13, 1933 in rural Johnson County, Kansas to Roy S. and Dorothy V. Zimmerman, and was a lifelong resident of Olathe. He was graduated from Olathe High School in 1952 and worked 32 years for the City of Olathe as a Maintenance Technician in the Water and Wastewater Department, retiring in 2002. Charley was active in Grace United Methodist Church and the Kansas Hunter Education Instructors Association. He was a past member of the Olathe Masonic Lodge #19, Boots and Spurs Saddlers, the Olathe Ski Club and a volunteer for the Prairie Center Fire Department. He was an Olathe Police Department volunteer, and enjoyed participating in the Lenexa Midnight Bike Ride each year. Known to his friends as "Trouble", he enjoyed making others smile, and was an avid gardener and hunter.

Charley was preceded in death by his parents, his son Kirk D. Zimmerman, and two sisters Margaret Ewing and Martha Lightcap. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ina Kay (Hays) Zimmerman, and children, Monty Zimmerman, Denise Mayer (Pat); Pennie Newsom (Mark); Jim Zimmerman (Sherri); Vince Campbell (Connie); Cody Zimmerman (Joni); and A. J. Underwood.

He is also survived by his brothers Wayne Zimmerman (Dorothy); J Elton Zimmerman; Ray Zimmerman (Annabelle); Ron Zimmerman (Linda); Howard Zimmerman (Lydia), and sisters, Mary Sell and Marjorie Ludwig.
Grandchildren Alex Kovarik (David), Amanda Zimmerman, Nichole Mayer, Jessica Mayer, Jessi Slicho (Turner), McKenzie Zimmerman, Quintin Zimmerman, Jamie Mullens (Brandon), Jordan Skilling (Tess), Jentrie Campbell, Jaycie Campbell and Nicole Milton survive, as do great-grandchildren, Henry Slicho, Axton Horton and Carter Mullens.
