Charles “Chuck” Winter, 68, of Olathe, Kansas unexpectedly passed away on February 17, 2025. Chuck was born in Garden City, Kansas on April 25, 1956, to Charles and Jeanne Winter (Gatschet). Chuck was the first son and second child of four in his family. Growing up, Chuck and his siblings attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from Garden City High School before attending Kansas State University to study accounting. Upon graduation, Chuck returned to Garden City to work as an accountant for several years before a chance meeting with the future love of his life, Mary Ellen Winter (Schofield).
Chuck and Mary Ellen, were married on June 10, 1989, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Roeland Park, Kansas. Chuck and Mary Ellen spent the first 4 years of their marriage in Roeland Park before settling in Olathe, Kansas to raise their family. Together, they were wonderful parents to Shannon (Jon), Dianne (Brian), and Steven. In time, their family grew to include 3 much-loved grandchildren Charlotte, Adam, and Eleanor.
Throughout his life Chuck was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed fishing, K-State sports (especially when they beat the Jayhawks – much to Mary Ellen’s chagrin), watching Chiefs football with family (he could usually be found at table #1 at Austin’s with the grandkids and family friends to watch the Chiefs games), and generally attending sporting events of his children and grandchildren.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents. Chuck is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; children Shannon (Jon), Dianne (Brian), and Steven; and grandchildren Charlotte, Adam, & Eleanor. He is also survived by all three of his siblings Mary (Jim), T.K., and Michel (Emmett) as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Chuck will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved his dry wit and analytical mind.
