Charles William O'Brien, III, 75, loving husband of Marcia Patterson O'Brien, passed away after fighting a courageous battle with Progressive Supra-nuclear Palsy (PSP) on April 3, 2014, at his home in Leawood, Kansas surrounded by his loved ones.
Charlie was born in Springfield, Illinois, to Charles William O'Brien, Jr., his wife, Patricia Ann O'Malley.
Charlie grew up riding horses in the foothills of Arcadia, CA, where he attended San Gabriel Mission High School and Pasadena College. He served in the California National Guard.
A highly respected regional sales manager and product developer for Erico, Inc., he had a true passion for his work evidenced by his 38 years of loyal service and by the high esteem in which he was held by his colleagues.
A man of devout faith, Charlie served as President of the Parish Council of Gesu Church and School, Toledo, Ohio and was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus in Yorba Linda, California at St. Martin de Porres. Never one to sit idle, Charlie developed into a skilled cook, avid woodworker, and enthusiastic oenophile. He was a common sight at the Red Cross where he frequently donated blood. His love for tennis stayed with him his entire life and playing doubles at Yorba Linda Country Club with his wife Marcia was a favorite activity.
Charlie is survived by his wife Marcia Patterson O'Brien, daughters, Wende O'Brien Brannock and Sam, Dena O'Brien Waris, Erin Louise O'Brien Dionisiou and Angelo. His grandchildren are Jack Lincoln Brannock, Daniel Fred Brannock, Benjamin Greg Brannock, Jacob Michael Waris, Joseph Alexander Waris, Gabriella Marie Waris, Nina Jane Dionisiou and Gabriel Charles Dionisiou.
Charlie was loved and tenderly cared for by Penny, Jake, Priscilla, Church of the Nativity Respite volunteers, Pat, Karen, Amy and Mike, good friend and lay distributor, Gentiva Hospice and Kansas City Hospice. His family will be eternally grateful to them for their amazing devotion and gentle care.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Mission San Luis Rey Church in Oceanside, California, on April 11 at 1:30 pm. Reception immediately following the Mass in the Church Hall with Charlie's favorite Irish music. Condolences may be expressed at AraCremation.com of Overland Park, Kansas.
