Charles A. Growney Jr., 76, passed away September 3, 2007 at Eventide Nursing Home in Topeka Kansas.
Charles was born March 20, 1931 in Conception, Missouri.
Charles was a veteran of the United States Air Force for over 12 years and was stationed at various Air Force Bases around the country including the Strategic Air Command Headquarters at Offutt Air Force Base outside of Omaha. He served during and after the Korean Conflict.
Up until his retirement in 1986, he was a Postal Clerk for the United States Post Office.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Knights of Columbus, Bishop Hogan Council. He was active within the Catholic church throughout his lifetime, and was a man of strong faith.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife Johanna, son Brian, his parents, Charles and Dorothea, brothers, Eugene, Donald and Kenneth and his sister Dorothy Oakason.
Survivors include daughters; Theresa of West Des Moines, Iowa, Mary Ebberts and Christine Phelan, both of Kansas City; sons John of Houston, Texas and Patrick and William, both of Kansas City. Brothers; Thomas of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Edward of Kansas City. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday evening, September 7 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Blackbob Rd, Olathe, KS with Recitation of the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 8 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Columba Church, Conception Junction, Missouri. Interment, St. Columba Cemetery, Conception, Missouri.
