Charles "Charlie" Thomas Riggs, 57, of Overland Park, passed away on January 25, 2019. He was born on February 3, 1961 to Howard and Everill (Ferriera) Riggs in Olathe, KS.
Charlie grew up in Olathe, KS in a Catholic home where he attended St. Paul's catholic grade school then Olathe North High School. In his early years, he enjoyed playing football and being a pain to his mom. As a young adult, he worked at a liquor store with his dad where he met a few lifelong friends that were very near and dear to his heart. At the age of 22, Charlie entered the real estate world where he spent long days working to provide for his future family. Several agent colleagues even called him "Mr. Olathe" at one point in time.
In October of 1998, Charlie welcomed Karli, his pride and joy into the world. Real estate took a back seat to being a dad. Charlie and Karli enjoyed traveling together, proudly making it to 42 different states before Karli graduated high school. In addition to themselves, they had a dog named Bella who was Charlie's other half. Charlie and Bella spent many nights cuddled in bed.
Charlie also loved Chiefs football, even before they were good. He never missed a game.
Charlie left the world 10 days after his only grandchild, Hudson Charles, was born. In those 10 days, Hudson brought him lots of joy and love. The family truly believes he held on long enough to get just a little time with his grandson.
Charlie is survived by his loving daughter, Karli Riggs; Grandson, Hudson Watters; Sisters Paula Harper, Susan Breon, and Joan Riggs; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Anna Richardson; and brother, James Riggs.
The family will receive friends for a visitation from 5:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at Penwell-Gabel's Olathe Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2019, 10:30am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lenexa. Followed by burial in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Olathe.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
