Born on October 5, 1922 in Kansas City, MO, to Margaret (nee Wassmer) and Wendell Ohmes, Dorline was raised in Greeley and then Argentine, KS. She graduated from Bishop Ward High School and was a founding member of the WA-HI Club, a close-knit circle of school friends and eventually their spouses who gathered monthly for cards and conversation for over 55 years. After graduation she worked as a comptometer operator at Swift & Co. in Kansas City. On June 7, 1947 she married her life partner, Bill Lawrence, and they settled in Kansas City, KS to raise their children. Two of Dorline's passions in life were her Catholic faith and her family. She was actively involved in the parishes in which she lived – Sacred Heart in KCK, St. Joseph in Shawnee, and most recently Holy Trinity. She was committed to providing her five children with the opportunity for a college education and so returned to work at Continental Baking Company in 1961 to help finance their tuition. Her proudest achievement was to see them complete their degrees. All of those close to Dorline recognized her wonderful talent as a baker, especially her pies! Fresh fruit pies were her specialty – rhubarb, raspberry, peach, apple - and they graced many a picnic table at family gatherings. But there is no doubt that Dorline's favorite guilty pleasure was ice cream (butterscotch milkshakes topped the list), and it is one that she shared with her husband and passed on to her children and grandchildren!
Dorline is survived by her five children, Judy Rogers (Glenn Davis), Jeanne (Tom) Cernich, Tim (Sheila) Lawrence, Carol (Loren) Semrau, and Kristen (Tom) Lawler; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three sisters, Rita Seago, Mary Dean (Walt) Wolf, and Lucille (Jim) Healy, and two sisters-in-law Margie and Bernie Ohmes. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Bill, her parents Margaret and Wendell Ohmes, Sr., and two brothers Wendell Ohmes, Jr. and Albert Ohmes.
