He is also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Gorden/Gartrell of Lufkin, Texas. Gorden, Jr. in Lufkin, Texas.

During his school years, Dad was a Boy Scout and only one step away from an Eagle Scout. He was very active in sports. Dad played soccer, lacrosse, baseball and track. He was a member of the glee club, a quartet, the acappella choir and Vice President of his senior class.

His first job after high school was working for the Chesapeake and Potomic Telephone Company as a frame hop and the outside construction line crew.

Dad enlisted in the U. S. Air Force on January 4, 1951. He was sent to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas for basic training. Dad was assigned to Carswell Air Force Base located in Ft. Worth, Texas in the Strategic Air Command, 11th Bomb Wing, 26th Bomb Squadron. He was a Staff Sergeant assigned as a Crew Chief on the B-36 Bomber.

On May 10, 1952, dad was united in marriage to Shirley Gorden at the United Methodist church in Lufkin, Texas. For 2 years, they resided in Ft. Worth, Texas while dad was stationed at Carswell Air Force Base until 1954. To help supplement his income, since mother was expecting Bev, he worked nights for a bakery delivering bread. That's why today he would answer our calls saying "Carroll's Bakery".

For 13 years, they resided in Linthicum, Maryland when dad accepted a position with the telephone company. He also worked numerous jobs to support his family selling and installing storm windows and working in a tropical fish store making fish aquariums.

During this time, dad was blessed with two daughters who brought him so much joy. We were daddy's girls. Following mothers passing three years ago, we were always 3 peas in a pod. Now we carry it on as two peas in a pod.

Dad and mother were very active in the church. He taught youth Sunday school, was President of the Young Married Couples Group and President of the Methodist Men's Group. He was also President of the local Lions Club.

Dad and mother loved going out with their friends square dancing, ballroom dancing, cha-cha, rumba, two-step, waltz and swing dancing. He always had to remind mother who was supposed to be leading.

Dad and mother loved being on the water. They owned a couple cabin cruisers named the Mon-Ami and Lazy Days and kept them at the Annapolis Yacht Club on the Chesapeake Bay. This was the best time for us to spend weekends fishing, water skiing, crabbing and sailing.

In order to always provide for his family, dad attended night school at the University of Baltimore and received his BS in Business Management in 1962.

Over the course of the next 19 years, dad and mother resided in Annandale, Virginia; Prairie Village, Kansas; Houston, Texas, and St. Louis, Missouri. These moves were mostly due to job transfers and promotions with AT&T.

The greatest trip dad and mother had with their grandchildren was a 10-day trip to Panama City, Florida. They swam, rode the waves on surf boards and built sand castles on the beach every day. It was a real compliment to them when everyone thought they were their children ranging from age 3 to age 30.

In 1986, after 30 years with AT&T, dad retired and they moved into a beautiful home on Beaver Lake in Rogers, Arkansas. These were the best memories swimming, boating, fishing, water skiing, sailing, and tubing. The family loved being there for Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. For 6 years, Dad was a fishing guide on the lake taking people out on his pontoon boat to catch large Hybrids, Stripers and white bass.

Dad and mother traveled across the USA. They saw France, Mexico, and Canada. What great memories they shared traveling across the country in their van, gong on a cruise and traveling Europe together.

In 1999, they moved to Olathe, Kansas to be closer to their family. Dad and mother started traveling to their favorite place in Port Aransas,Texas to spend the winter months. Dad absolutely loved to fish his entire life. We granted his last wish to go fishing one more time. He flew to Florida to spend a week with Bev and Dan over Thanksgiving to fish. This was a gift from God we will always treasure. A month later he was called home to be reunited with the love of his life for eternity.

Dad, you have added so much to our life, yet the greatest gift you have given to us was showing us the door to eternal life. Dad, thanks for leading the family in daily prayers and teaching us about the love of Christ. Dad, you're our example of being a hard worker and taking pride in your accomplishments. We have been blessed beyond measure and owe it to you. We love, honor and thank you.

The best memory everyone will have of dad is his great sense of humor, his wonderful laugh and last but not least his love for fishing. Dad always had a story to tell that made everyone laugh. But most importantly he dearly loved his wife with all his heart and soul.
