Carol A. Massieon

February 19, 1946 — January 7, 2019

Carol Ann Massieon, 72, of Olathe, passed away on January 7, 2019 at KU Medical Center.

She was born on February 19, 1946 to William and Mary (Carney) Noble in Cedar Rapids, IA. She was an active child and enjoyed swimming/diving as well as time spent with many friends. She graduated high school in 1964 from Shawnee Mission West (Overland Park, KS) where she was on the yearbook staff, a cheerleader, member of the Acapella choir, and a Homecoming Queen attendant.

Carol received a bachelor's degree in Business from Kansas State University (Manhattan, KS) in 1968 and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority.

She married Richard J. Massieon (deceased 2012) on August 24, 1968 and moved with him to Lawrence, KS as he pursued his law degree while she worked as a legal assistant. Together, they moved to Seneca, KS in 1972 while building Richard's law practice. Carol, selflessly supported that business as Rich's legal secretary for nearly two decades then moved into entrepreneurial pursuits owning and managing a hair salon and gift shop for several years. She followed that with a partnership into a unique small town retail business, The Sunflower Patch, where she could be found visiting and helping her beloved friends/townspeople to find collegiate gear and/or unique Kansas items. Carol also enjoyed a short time working as a host at the Sac & Fox Casino for several years. Carol retired from small business life and moved closer to her children in 2007 and enjoyed time working at Argosy Casino, Target and Kohl's department stores. She worked tirelessly and was reliable and friendly. She never knew a stranger.

Her civic and volunteer duties included member of the Seneca Jaynes Club, coaching swim team and her daughter, Mary's, softball teams, member of the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the bridge club, and a women's bowling league. Most notable for Carol was her commitment and devotion to the local School Board for Nemaha Valley High School from 1987-2007 as well as position with the Board of Directors of the Kansas State Association of School Boards where she served as the Region 4 Vice- President from 1993-2001 and President from 2004-2005. She valued education for children and was proud of the work that she did and the time that she had following that mission in her life.

In her latter years, Carol was limited in her physical abilities, but that did not stop her from making time and spending it with pride for her three children and six grandchildren. She loved to cheer them all on from the sidelines as well as snuggling and reading books. She was a recovering people pleaser even in her final days where she gave of herself selflessly, she was pleasant and kind, and wanted nothing more than to give in a way that showed how much she loved. She will be greatly missed by many.

Carol is survived in death by her loving daughter, Mary Blachly (Olathe) and son-in-law, Brian, and their three children: Niah (12), Athan (10) and Ayla (5). Her devoted son, Mark Massieon, (Kansas City, MO), and daughter-in-law, Lynn, and their son, Cameron (17). And her eldest child and devoted son, Andrew Massieon, (Overland Park), and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Perkins, and their two children: Drew (18) and Sophie (13). Her loving sister, Nancy Peithman (Tyler, TX) and her devoted brother, Chuck Noble (Tulsa, OK) and his wife and wonderful sister-in-law, Jeri Noble, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her former spouse, Richard J. Massieon, her brother William "Bill" Noble, as well her parents.
