Carol Frances Chiville Lynn, 67, of Olathe, Kansas died peacefully Sunday evening surrounded by her husband and children. She will be missed by many.
Carol was born to Frances Marcelle Jewell Chiville and William John Chiville on October, 28 1944 in, Maryland. She grew up with her sister, Janice and brother, Michael in Anacostia and Greenbelt, Maryland.
She met her loving husband Jim at High Point High School. They played clarinet side by side at High Point and the University of Maryland and married in 1965. She graduated with an education degree and taught school for several years before they started their family.
Carol was a woman of many talents and interests, and had a fierce, bright intellect. She had several careers, always holding the title of Chief Mom-in-Charge first. Carol worked as a tax preparer, then manager and writer for H&R Block. She helped start software companies many years before start-ups were called such, and in recent years was a technical writer for medical equipment companies. Her frequent advice would be, "Read the manual!" She had been an active member of the Society for Technical Communications and the Iris Society of Kansas City. Carol enjoyed quilting, cooking, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family.
Family was always first for Carol. She and her devoted husband Jim raised their children Susie, Jimmy and Sally across the country, making friends and cherished memories in Maryland, Georgia, Wisconsin, Missouri and Kansas. All three children brought many friends into their warm, welcoming house. Many became friends of Carol directly themselves, friendships she was always proud to have.
She was a strong woman of conviction and commitment. We children will cherish the lesson she showed of caring for her own mother, "Squeaky" Grandma, in our home for more than twenty years. Her house was always a loving, busy place of children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Jim; mother Frances; sister Janice and brother-in-law Jim Zinser of Oberlin, OH; brother Michael and sister-in-law Penny Scrivens of Frederick, MD; her daughter Susan and son-in-law Hameed Abdelhameed of Kansas City; their children Yasin, Ayah, and Mohamed; son, Jim and daughter-in-law Eileen Murphy of Cumberland, Rhode Island and their sons Anthony and Joseph; daughter Sarah and her husband Hironori Ito and their daughter Emi of Medford, NY. Carol enjoyed a life of close connection with all of her family.
She was preceded in death by her father John William Chiville.
Her family will have a private memorial to honor her life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 1900 W 75th St. #200, Prairie Village, KS 66208.
