Carol Kirk Graves, 63, of Overland Park, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 20, 2013.
She was born to the late Paul Kirk and Brooksie Baker Kirk on August 23, 1949, in Atlanta, GA. Carol was graduated from Headland High School, in East Point, GA, in 1967 and married Doug Graves in 1976 and they lived in Atlanta, GA, and in New Jersey before eventually relocated to Kansas in 1991.
Carol is survived by her husband, Doug Graves, of Overland Park, KS, her sister Paula Bowyer, of Hendersonville, NC, her two sons: Brandon Graves, of Lawrence, KS, Nathan Graves, of Shawnee, KS, and step-children Michael Graves, of Olathe, KS, and Patty Hill, of Columbus, OH. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren.
She was active in church work for many years, in Youth Ministry, Womens Ministry, and Choir. She volunteered at a medical missions ministry, Feed My Lambs, both in child sponsorship and various administrative duties.
Carol achieved middle management status in marketing in a multi-national communiations organization, with locations in five states, responsible for over 1400 employees.
Carol was a very gracious lady who loved her children and grandchildren and wanted to spend as much time with them as she could. She loved to cook and enjoyed having family over for meals, especially for her famous biscuits and gravy, and the family holiday favorite Red Velvet cake.
Her little Shih Tzu, Nova, was her constant companion and delightful company. She was fond of saying Nova was the auxillary door bell at his barking whenever anyone knocked on the front door.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the American Heart Association, in Carol's name.
The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 24, at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 South Blackbob Road, Olathe, KS 66062, with a graveside service immediately following at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, just west of Antioch Road on 159th Street. The cemetery is immediately west of Redeemer Presbyterian Church.
