Carol Caughron

September 11, 1954 — February 28, 2017

Carol went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday February 28th, 2017. She was 62 years old. After over 40 years of marriage, Carol is survived by her husband Michael E. (Mike), their four sons: Nathan 36, Justin 34, Jonathan 31, and Michael C. 26 and two grandchildren: Zoey 10 and Joseph 2. She is also survived by her two brothers Stan Franklin and his wife Grace of Loveland, CO. and Gene Franklin of Prairie Village, KS.

Born in Kansas City, MO and raised in Leawood, KS, Carol was a graduate of Shawnee Mission East High School, class of 1972 and attended Kansas City First Church of the Nazarene from childhood through much of her young adult life. She was very involved in youth group activities and camps and loved horseback riding. Carol's parents wanted their children to see the United States and travel abroad. By her junior year in College she had traveled to 48 of the 50 states, Europe three times (10 countries in total) with the fjords of Norway among her favorites (many wonderful stories and adventures to tell and Carol often was the "navigator" for her Father in their travels).

Carol finished her college education at Mid-America Nazarene College (University) in 1976, with a double Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Accounting. Carol was a member of the Mid-America Nazarene College Chorale in the Soprano section all four years while in college. In 1976, she was also a member of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges" for her Academic Achievement. Carol and Mike met in February of 1975 and married in the summer of 1976.

Carol was kind, loving, and very outgoing; she was also known for her friendliness frequently meeting someone new even on "just-getting-one-thing" trips to the store. Within just a few minutes she would know their life story, any current prayer need they might have, as well as if they had children, their children's names and their birth weights; because she genuinely wanted to know. Besides raising her four boys, Carol loved cooking, singing, and worshiping the Lord. She and Mike were two of the founding members of Cathedral Church of the King in Olathe, KS.

Carol loved filling the house, and the car on vacations, with music and song and taught all her sons to appreciate all types of music like musicals, Christian, choral, acapella, quartet, worship songs and the music of many popular artists of the 50's through today. All four sons were in Choir in Junior High and High School and were all well versed on many songs from musicals like The Sound of Music, Oklahoma, The Music Man, West Side Story, Mary Poppins, Grease, The Phantom of the Opera, Newsies and many more.

Carol was employed for several years before becoming a stay-at-home mom. She began working several years part time for her Father, a CPA, at his accounting firm formerly located on the Plaza. After college, she and Mike moved to Tulsa, OK where she was employed as an Accountant for an oil company, Samson Resources. Later, she was hired as a Staff level Accountant for PepsiCo. Following her husband's graduation from Oral Roberts University in 1978, Carol and Mike moved back to Olathe where Carol worked as an Office Manager for a small business in Olathe, KS. Once the boys were in junior and senior high school Carol returned to work outside the home working in Accounts Receivable and Payables at Marley Cooling Tower Co., account collections at Encore Receivable Management and ATM reconciliations at Capitol Federal Savings.

Carol was known for her love, and abundance of kindness. Her smile and ability to make a positive impression on others was one of a kind, and her presence will truly be missed but, the song in her heart remains in her family and friends forever.
