Carmen Minjarez Michalakis, 78 of Olathe, KS passed away on October 17, 2020 at home.
She was born on December 3, 1941 to Felipe and Carmelita (Tierres) Minjarez in El Paso, TX. She grew up in Ysleta and attended Ysleta High School.
On April 30th, 1960 she married Demosthenes N. Michalakis, (Jim). Jim and Carmen lived all over the world and raised 3 daughters.
Carmen graduated Magna cum laude from the University of MD and attended 1 year of law school in New Mexico. She worked as an adjudicator for USDA in Washington, D.C. before moving to KS. She worked for several federal agencies in Kansas City but retired as an Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist from EPA in KCK in 2004.
Carmen enjoyed sewing, baking "Yaya's" Greek bread, teaching others how to cook Mexican and Greek dishes, writing and researching geneology.
She was a member of Redeemer Presbyterian Church and was involved in mission trips, advising in a Crisis Pregnancy Clinic and assisted in a ministry to help Spanish speakers learn English. She valued education and was always ready to encourage others to go to school and ready to advocate, advise and help others in need. She was extremely generous with her time and money.
Carmen is survived by her three daughters and son-in-law, Carmelita Michalakis (Hotz), Katherine and Kevin Pavel and Kleonikki Michalakis and seven grandchildren; Justin, Nick, Robbie, Mich, Rico, Natalia and Jacque.
