Carmaline Swift

March 9, 1927 — May 10, 2016

Carmaline Teri Swift, longtime Raytown, Missouri resident died May 10, 2016, peacefully with both children at her bedside. Services will be Saturday, May 21, 10:00 a.m. at Hallbrook Country Club, 11200 Overbrook Road, Leawood, Kansas 66211. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association or Kansas City Hospice.

Carm was born March 9th, 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri, daughter of Frank and Josephine Teri. She met her husband, Don Swift, on a blind date, and they married November 26, 1950. Don predeceased her in 2005 after 55 years of marriage.

Carmaline was a remarkable homemaker, mother and most importantly, devoted wife. When asked time and again what made their marriage special, the answer was, "we always put each other first." Her "funny bone" constantly present, spilled into a very positive attitude with all things "life." Singing solos in the church choir was an expression of her deep faith and need to share heavenly sounds with others. Sewing beautifully throughout the years, she provided her two children with ongoing "originals" which she loved. Baking was another passion, producing the most mouthwatering pastries imaginable. Each evening her family would be seated to such tasty and complex meals, with love as her main ingredient. The top of the list was family, always sturdy yet gentle and ever present. It was the core of what she represented. Carm was involved in Camp Fire Girls, Cub Scouts, PTA and was always a room mother each year for her two children. Traveling was a shared love she had with her husband and they saw the world with one another and through each other's eyes…and are now doing the same.

Carm is survived by her two children; Diane Walton VanDerTuuk and her husband Terry, of Leawood; son, Russ Swift and his partner Paul Jernigan of Prairie Village. Sisters, Frances Tornabene, Pauline Hart and her husband Bill, brother Hank Teri and his wife Bev.

A special thanks to the wonderful care provided by Kansas City Hospice. Also, Cela Minnick was a loving caregiver, which helped Mom navigate her ever-changing world; along with Aubrey Grantham, both offering their love and support, which we will never forget.
