On Monday, July 15, 2019, Carlo Di Maria passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 67. He was born May 24, 1952 to Marie A. "Lena" (Palmitiere) (d. 2003) and Paul DiMaria (d. 1967), and was brother to John and Carlo ( d. 1946). He is survived by his first wife Mary (Hanebrink) and was a loving father to Stacia (married to Mathew Ghafoori), Lisa (married to James Park), and Paul DiMaria (married to Liz Yurkevicz). He spent the last eight years with his love, Nancy Sutton, of Ottawa, KS. He was a proud and doting "Pa-Pa" to Mark, Gavin, and Natalie as well as Anneliese and Isabella. His grandkids will miss him dearly.
Carl had a passion and talent for photography and utilized that talent for capturing his favorite things: family, birds, and baseball. He had an incredible eye for photographing moments in a way he proudly described as "artsy-fartsy" and would delight in his luck when capturing just the precise time that an eagle snagged a fish or a ball cracked the batter's bat. It was his joy to share his photos.
Carl was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and was strongly involved in his USMC community. For many years, he thoroughly enjoyed his time with friends re-enacting battles form the Civil Was Cavalry and continued to stay involved with their group as Treasurer after his move. Though he spent the last decade of his life in Kansas City, he was very proud of his life-long commitment to his home community in North County St. Louis, with organizations such as the Jaycees and volunteering as a clown with the local Shriners. Carl will be remembered for his compassionate heart, his straightforward nature, and his fun sense of humor. He could never appreciate just how many lives he touched, and how loved he was by many.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 28 from 2pm-5pm at the Event Center in Martin City, MO. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to the Semper Fi Fund at semperfifund.org.
