Carl Penalton Floyd Jr., 74, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021. He was born on March 3, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri to Carl and Catherine (Duddy) Floyd.
Carl grew up between Kansas City Missouri, Phoenix Arizona, and Dallas Texas; however, he made his lifelong home in Kansas. He was a jack of all trades throughout his life. He became a mechanic at a very young age learning some of the skills from his father before going onto mechanics school. During his lifetime he was also a professional window washer, manager of a farm equipment company, professional wallpaper hanger and a superintendent for new home construction. Carl was also an army veteran. He served during the Vietnam war. He was a combat engineer, a demolitions expert and a personnel carrier driver. When he was honorably discharged he held the rank of sergeant. For the last 15 years, Carl was retired and enjoyed various hobbies such as learning his way around computers, cruising around Olathe on his bright red scooter, and of course cheering on his favorite football team, The Kansas City Chiefs!
Carl is survived by his children, Carl Penalton Floyd III, Peggy Sue Floyd, Kamila Maria Cardenas, Clinton Michael Foland, John "JP" Philip Floyd, and Philip Martens Floyd; grandchildren, Hayli Foland, Elizabeth Foland, Matilda Foland, and Tommy Foland.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl Floyd and Catherine Hayes; grandparents, Carl Winston Floyd and Mabel Estella Depew; siblings, Dorothy, Louise, John, Carleen, Cathleen, and William.
The family will receive guests for a visitation from 10:00-11:00am on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Penwell Gabel's Olathe Chapel, with the funeral service following at 11:00am. The family requests that everyone in attendance, wear their Chiefs gear on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Carl's memory may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
