Cara L. Triplett, 90, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023. She was born on July 7, 1933 in Lancaster, Kansas to Henry and Martha (Boatwright) Poos.
Cara grew up in Lancaster, Kansas where her father was a veterinarian, and after his death, her mother ran a small diner. After graduating from Effingham/Atchison School System she first worked for a photographer and then as an operator for MaBell (AT&T). She met Roger Triplett and married him on August 21, 1955 in Topeka, KS. After her 2 children were born she found herself a widow after the death of her husband of a rare disease in 1967. She worked a variety of jobs including Florist, as well as Social Director for the Bella Vista Retirement Community.
Then she decided to go to college where she obtained a B.S. in Home-Ec with an emphasis on Fashion Design. After graduation she worked as a cook for the YWCA in Topeka, where she even had a small cooking segment on the local news. She was known for founding the Designer Showhouse in Topeka now in its 41st year which was a fundraiser for multiple nonprofits. Later she worked for Johnson County Area on Aging as an intake worker, helping seniors and others to pay their bills.
Cara was known for her love of flowers through Garden Clubs, floral designing and her amazing backyard garden. Another lifelong passion was her love of food and cooking which was one way her artistry was displayed. She attended Village Presbyterian Church for more than 25 years and Knox Presbyterian Church for almost 30 years.
Cara is survived by her children, Kay Triplett and her husband Al Summerford, and Lori Lee Triplett. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Alan Poos, her sister Alice Patterson, and her husband Roger H. Triplett.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Cara's memory be made to Knox Presbyterian Church or Great Plains SPCA.
