Buddy L. Boyer

December 15, 1936 — June 9, 2022

Buddy LeeRoy Boyer, 85, of Shawnee Kansas, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2022. He was born on December 15, 1936, in rural Gilman City, Missouri to Charles H. and Alpha I. (Troxel) Boyer.

Buddy was born and grew up on a farm purchased by his grandfather in 1880, making three generations of Boyers born on this farm. Ultimately, in 1949 his family moved to a farm East of Jameson, Mo and Buddy attended and graduated from Jameson School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on July 6, 1955, serving four years, in Greenland for a portion of this time. After his enlistment was completed, he worked as an auto mechanic for a Ford dealership in Bethany, Mo. He accepted a position in Chillicothe Mo with Industrial Equipment Company and moved to Hamilton, Mo where his 4 children, Victor, Rodney, Lisa and Kenny were raised. He was respected as one of the best small engine experts in the community. In 1978 he married Jo Ann (Clevenger) Martin and continued living in Hamilton until they moved to Chillicothe Mo when Jo Ann accepted a position in a bank. Buddy retired in 1998 and moved to Lenexa, Kansas where he resided with Jo Ann until recently moving to Shawnee Ks. In 2017 Buddy sustained severe injuries from a fall from an eleven-foot deck, confining him to a wheelchair for his remaining years.

Buddy loved hunting, fishing, working in the garden and watching all kinds of sports. He continued fixing all kinds of equipment for friends, family and the church. You would find him weekly mowing the church lawn in the summer or doing handyman errands for anyone needing help.

Many words describing Bud from friends and family include kind, loving, patient, helpful and faithful. All who knew him would enjoy his long stories and "Bud"isms he shared. All have benefited from his strength of character and wisdom. Buddy never complained or dwelt in self-pity for his disability but shone as an example to all what God's grace can do in one's life.

Buddy is survived by his loving wife, Jo Ann Boyer; 5 children: Victor Boyer, Rodney Boyer, Kenny Boyer, Jennifer Franklin and Beki Krueger, 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, 3 sisters: Charlene Ballenger, Kearney Mo, Nancy McNeely, Pattonsburg, Mo and Margaret Kindig, Arvada, Colorado.

Buddy is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Alpha Boyer and his daughter, Lisa Gay Feigly.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Central Church of The Nazarene, 12600 W 87th St Pkwy, Lenexa, Ks 66215. The family will receive guests for a visitation immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Buddy's memory be made to the Kansas City Rescue Mission.
