Brian Todd Stainbrook

January 26, 1970 — August 26, 2019

Son, brother, uncle, friend, business owner and survivor. Brian was born on January 26, 1970 with no chance to survive...Brian had other plans. For the first 21 years of his life, Brian struggled with a significant heart defect. He never let this define him. In 1987 he went into congestive heart failure and was advised that his only hope for survival was a heart and double lung transplant. Unfortunately, heart and double lung transplants were considered experimental by his insurance company. Brian's family had to turn to the community for help and support. Olathe citizens, Olathe South High School, Johnson County Community College and one significant donation from Kansas City's own Secret Santa, Larry Stewart, made the financial minimum possible for Brian to get onto the Transplant List. On the weekend of July 4th, 1991, Brian's beeper went off telling him his organs were available. His transplant was completed on July 7th, 1991. To date, Brian is the longest known survivor to receive a heart double lung transplant from the University of Minnesota.

Against doctors' orders regarding the things he should not do, Brian decided to live life and do what he wanted to do....and he did. Brian enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling to Canada and Alaska, spending time with his nephews and numerous friends. He was a mentor, teacher and friend to his 6 nephews sharing many positive life lessons and a few questionable pearls of wisdom with them. He also enjoyed organizing and hosting many memorable parties surrounded by good friends. Brian was a business owner and a long time employee of Johnson County Water One.

Brian is survived by his mother, Linda Stainbrook, step-father, Bob Boulware, his brother, Mark Stainbrook, his sister, Dee Dee Pittman (Dirk), his step-sister Amy Boulware and nephews Grant, Jackson, Kyle, Kaleb, Reid and Landon. Brian was preceded in death by his father, Paul (Bob) Stainbrook.
