Brenda L. Lopez

March 11, 1933 to February 4, 2021

Brenda left the weight of this world today and joined her other family and friends that predeceased her.

Mom to us, Brenda to many, Brandy to a few, was a loving and loyal friend, independent, smart, feisty and fierce woman of her age. Born in Brooklyn NY and raised in West Hempstead NY, mom was the first woman to attend the Cornell University, School of Architecture.

Mom's life arc was wide, taking her from New York to Virginia, Germany, North Carolina, New Windsor, Houston and finally Kansas City.

She was a traditional mother in the 60's and cherished that role. Our friends loved to come over and mom would visit with them and engage them in conversation and get to know them. She cared and they knew it.

The 70's presented challenges to Brenda and she met them with her characteristic, dogged determination. She used her art skills and intellect to start an advertising career with W. T. Grant, then K-MART and rose to break through the glass ceiling.

Anywhere mom went she was an organizer, and efficiency expert. She hated waste of any kind.

Mom always advocated of her coworkers and other employees, a trait she carried to her time in retirement housing where she was dubbed the "mayor".

Mom was a voracious reader and did so at intimidating speed. Her memory was a true marvel (something that worked against us as teenagers trying to get away with a few things).

Mom loved football from her days following our father at Cornell to her love of the Oakland Raiders and finally her salvation as a Kansas City Chief fan. She lived for football on tv, enjoying the game and "snaacks" with her beloved son—in-law Gene Hageman. She was a passionate fan and held back nothing in her attitude towards mistakes by her team or the opposition that could be heard throughout her wing of the nursing home.

Mom was most proud of her children (Tony Levinson and Lisa Hageman) and grandchildren (Jason and Claire Levinson) and her daughter-in-law Pam Levinson and Son-in-law Gene Hageman.

She will be dearly remembered and missed. Rest-In-Peace our dear matriarch.

No memorial service is planned. Mom loved children. Memorials are suggested to St. Judes Children's hospital.
