Bradley David Richmond

July 20, 1951 — June 5, 2018

Bradley D. Richmond was born in Riverside, California on July 20, 1951 to Francis P. and Margaret L. (Long) Richmond, and passed away on June 6, 2018, in Overland Park, Kansas. He graduated from Topeka High School and Washburn University, obtaining a bachelor's degree in Communications. He began his career in photojournalism at KTWU and WIBW in Topeka, and later worked at WHAS in Louisville, Kentucky. He met his future wife Rebecca in 1978; they were wed in Topeka the following year. In 1983, they moved together to Kansas City, where he went to work at KCTV 5, until his retirement. He also founded and ran Doubledogs Video, an independent video production company.

Brad's love for photography was more than professional – he spent a lifetime learning and honing his craft, and mentoring many others who shared the same interest. An avid animal lover, he was for many years involved in local dog and cat rescue organizations, and adopted more than a few of his own. As a dedicated environmentalist, he supported organizations such as the Sierra Club and Greenpeace, and spent many years in the great outdoors hiking, camping, and fishing (catch and release only, of course).

Brad was thoughtful, generous, and incredibly kind; he cared deeply for innocent creatures and loved feeding the birds. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved nothing more than sharing a laugh with friends. He looked forward to the annual Trout-a-Thon and poker nights with his fellow journalists. He was a caring father, a wonderful husband, and a loyal friend – and he will be missed more than we can say.

Brad is survived by his wife Rebecca Richmond and his son, Tyler. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Craig.
