Bradley Alling Smith, 59, loving father, brother, uncle, and a friend to many passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday, May 21st at his home. Brad was born May 17, 1957, in Kansas City, to Lawrence E. III and Nancy A. Smith.
He attended Pembroke Country Day School, excelling in tennis. Upon graduation from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor's degree in Communications (and skiing), he moved to Dallas as a tennis professional at Brookhaven CC. Some of his best students were Dallas Cowboys players. Upon returning to KC, he entered a long career of printing sales with his family's company, Smith Grieves & Western Envelope, and later, as an independent printing broker. That love for meeting people and making life-long friends through sales endeared him to all who crossed his path.
Brad loved all sports and excelled at many. Golf became his passion and in the process won three Club championships at The Kansas City Country Club and made 4 hole-in-ones through the years. Though not long off the tee, he was incredibly straight, much to the dismay of his golf opponents! He was an avid fan of the KU Jayhawks, KC Chiefs, and the Royals.
Brad was a proud, loving, devoted father and loved nothing more than his 3 children. Predeceased by his parents, Brad is survived by his sons, Barrett, Gordon, and Tyler, brothers Les (Cacki) and Greg (Sandee), as well as nieces Paige Bennish (Chris), Kelley Horigan (Cole), Kristen Smith and nephew, Brandon Smith.
A celebration of his life will be held at Nick and Jake's on Main St., June 9th from 5-7pm. Please wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Greater KC Spinal Injury Assoc., PO Box 8826, KCMO 64114 or a charity of your choice.
