Billy Waters

October 17, 1933 — April 24, 2019

Billy Waters, 85, long-time resident of Olathe, passed away on April 24, 2019 at Olathe Hospice House.

He was born on October 17, 1933 to Foster and Dollie (Branch) Waters at Tattnall Co., GA. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged at the US Naval Air Station, Olathe, KS.

It was in Olathe he met the love of his life, Sandra Sue Dresker. They celebrated their 62nd Wedding Anniversary on February 23rd, 2019. The marriage produced two children, Dixiana and Kale of which he was very proud.

He began his career with the Federal Aviation Administration in 1958, retiring in 1988 as, Chief of Facilities and Equipment of the Engineering Section in the Airways Facilities Division. During his career with the FAA he was selected to move his family to Holland for (3) months to be trained on a new computer system the FAA purchased from the Philips Company. Because of the work he had done in Holland, Billy was hired to represent the World Bank, traveling to Afghanistan to assist in the purchase of another computer system. His timing was just perfect, as he flew out of Kabul, the Russians were lining the runway.

He was a member of American Legion Post 153, Olathe, KS. He was an avid sports fan of our local teams and specifically the Kansas Jayhawks. In addition, for over 20 years he attended the NAIA National Basketball Tournament, starting at Municipal Auditorium and moving to Kemper Arena.

He loved his community (Olathe) and watched it grow from a population of 5,000+ to what it is today. Old Settlers was one of his favorite events annually held in Olathe, specifically enjoying his "Grange Pups" while talking with his many friends.

Billy is survived by his loving wife, Sandra, daughter, Dixie Kakebeen (Ron), son, Kale Waters (Laura), grandchildren, Courtney Kakebeen, Anneke Kakebeen, Jason Kakebeen, Chantall Boyd, Megan Rehman (Adil), Amanda Brackett, Rachel Waters, Chasen Waters, two great-grandchildren, Mason Brackett and Mollie Brackett, and two sisters, Jurell Wainwright and Patsy Durrence (Wayne).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Foster and Dollie Waters and his brother Bobby Waters.

Private family services will be held at a later date.
